Speakers
The speaker that comes with the decoder is a 32 Ohm, 1.1 (28 mm) round speaker. The speaker needs to be mounted sealed to a floor or other surface so the diesel shell or steam tender works as an enclosure. If this is not practical, you can order the TDS 1.1" speaker enclosure to use with the speaker.
A 1.1" round speaker will not fit in most HO scale diesel locomotives. For these locomotives we have a variety of 8 ohm speakers. Digitrax recommends at least 16 Ohms of impedance for a speaker. We have tested the decoder with 8 Ohm speakers and it works OK. However, there is a little distortion and the volume settings need to be lowered. The decoder performs best with two 8 Ohm speakers wired in series. For that configuration, you might consider two TDS Mini Oval speakers or any two speakers that will fit your locomotive. We do not have any 16 or 32 Ohm speakers.

The SDH164D is sound downloadable. When ordering please select the sound project from the drop-down box below. Using a PR3, any digitrax decoder can be loaded with a Digitrax or customer sound project.
