Ulrich Models SD70ACe LED Upgrade Kit The purpose of the LED Upgrade is improve the Athearn SD70ACe lighting so it is brighter and more prototypical. This is done by replacing the dim bulbs with bright, sunny white LEDs. Other benefits include: Elimination of inevitable light bulb failures that cause disassembly of the model to replace the bulbs. The Addition of a connector between the decoder and lights which allows the shell to be removed completely; no hard wires between the shell and decoder. The ability to have flashing ditch lights, if desired, by correcting the decoder wiring. The installation is well documented but requires some modeling skill to install. The kit includes 6 SMD LEDs with 6" leads. Four of the LEDs are glued to fiber optics and have attached stray light shielding. The other two LEDs are for the ditch lights. The headlight and backup lights leads are already soldered to the resistor board. The kit uses the Ulrich Models LED Lighting Resistor board with the headlight and backup LEDs already connected. The supplied resistor board has a wire harness with a male plug. There is a corresponding wire harness with a female plug for the decoder. The wire harness connects the decoder to the electronics in the shell. This makes separating the frame from the shell quite easy. There are no wires permanently connected between the frame and the shell. The procedure is slightly different. It can be adapted to other decoders but it will not work with the Athearn Genesis DCC ready board.
